York Fitness
York Fitness has been around for almost 75 years, making it one of the oldest and biggest names in the market of fitness equipment. It was first established in 1932 in the US as the World of Olympic Weightlifting. In 1936 it was established in Canada as a company that made weights and benches for the average person to use at home.
Today the company distributes to more than 50 countries and has offices in Taiwan, the UK and Australia.
The company’s founder, Bob Hoffman, was the coach of the American Olympic Weightlifting team from 1948 to 1964. He provided advice on youth fitness to several American presidents and was given to honour of the “Father of World Weightlifting” by the Olympic Weightlifting Federation.
Home fitness equipment manufactured by York fitness include barbells, gym balls, treadmills, multi-gyms, dumbbells, weight benches, cross trainers, and cycles. Commercial equipment is similar and has been used by the American Lions, Washington Redskins and LA Lakers. British sporting teams that have used York Fitness equipment include the rugby teams Harlequins, Borders, Saracens, and Northampton Saints.
There are more York Fitness weights in the world than there are of any other fitness equipment manufacturer.
